Lighthouses

The architecture of lighthouses has always attracted me . . . their setting and colors add to the appeal. They represent a bygone era when GPS and other instrumental navigation did not exist. I hope they continue to be maintained for years to come.

Rolling Cloud Over Big Sable Lighthouse
The Big Sable Lighthouse is located on Lake Michigan. It is accessed from Ludington State Park via a wonderful one-mile hike north on the beach. (2012)
Old Mackinac Point Lighthouse
Mackinaw Point marks the junction of Lake Michigan and Lake Huron. Founded in 1889, the Old Mackinac Point Light Station was in operation from 1890 until 1957. The lighthouse sits In Mackinaw City, Michigan, and can be seen from I-75 as you travel north or south on the Interstate. The Mackinaw Bridge, connecting Michigan's upper and lower peninsulas, now serves as the chief navigational aid for Great Lakes traffic. (2012)
Summer Afternoon In Petoskey
The sun will not set for another hour or two. This scene is repeated day after day during the summer months on Lake Michigan's Little Traverse Bay in Petoskey, Michigan. Local teenagers use the breakwater as a diving platform to swim in the lake. (2014)
