Joshua Tree National Park
The most important thing missing from each of my images in this gallery is the oppressive heat that was present on the day of our visit. The desert has much to teach us about the marvels of adaptation. Relentless sun, little water, and summer temperatures far above 100 degrees (F) can make a forbidding world for non-desert dwellers. Yet hundreds of species conserve moisture and beat the heat in fascinating ways.
